I’m Cara, a visual artist based in the U.K. My work focuses on how our lived environments - schools, offices, hospitals, and train stations, etc. - exert a direct impact on our behaviour and have a lasting effect on our mental health. In life, we move through buildings, streets, and weather as if passively, but in truth, our bodies and minds are actively and consciously interacting with, and responding to, them.
Growing up in the 90s, I was surrounded by concrete and an overwhelming, encroaching grey, but TV shows, cartoons, and movies offered vibrant, hyper-saturated worlds that were fantastically hypnotic yet far removed from reality - feeding a visceral need to escape into non-existent portals of technicolour adventure. Through my art, I aim to capture this disjunction, hoping others will recognise their own experiences and feel a sense of connection.
